Creative Futures: Designing Exciting, Innovative and Entrepreneurial Media/Arts Careers Post-COVID
A Conversation with John Kuiphoff and Teresa Nakra
Moderated by Maurice Hall, Dean of the School of the Arts and Communication

As the ravages of the pandemic gradually subside and the arts sector begins to rebuild, the degree to which recovery can succeed depends on quick adaptation to an adjusted landscape. The challenges ahead will require renewed emphasis on creativity, innovation, interdisciplinarity, and entrepreneurship.

In this presentation, two faculty from the TCNJ School of the Arts and Communication will provide their perspectives as practitioners and educators in media arts, human-centered design, music technology, and digital fabrication. Drawing on their extensive experience as consultants and creative technologists, they will reflect on the intersecting skill sets and disciplines that have informed the ways in which they approach their work. They will share their insights from the new teaching methods they have developed at TCNJ, and explain how they are rethinking future curricula to prepare students for careers and opportunities in both traditional jobs as well as the Gig Economy. They recognize the importance of skills such as problem-solving, professional positioning, collaboration, and also the crucial attitude of giving oneself the permission to keep learning new things.
