Jazz and the Journey to Freedom: A Half-Century of Innovation
Join Gary Fienberg, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the TCNJ Jazz Ensemble, as he revisits the history of jazz. From its roots at the turn of the 20th century to its most complex expression in the 1960's, Jazz music underwent remarkable changes in purpose, form, and aesthetics. Using well-known examples and historical commentary, Prof. Fienberg will discuss several of the key artistic and cultural "crossroads" in Jazz music. This webinar will appeal to both the jazz novice or expert, and illustrate for us how despite the many changes that occurred over the decades, the music maintained its identity.
